![]() ![]() I had to wind up enlarging the hole just so the plugs would fit. I was on the road and the BMW kit sucks wind big time, since the plugs are so big. I thought about patching the hole from the inside, but decided against it. I've had to use the stock BMW kit to repair a roofing screw out of my rear tire with only 2310 miles on it. Replacement of equipment I believe works is low on my list so I will continue to carry it for the foreseeable future. The new model is smaller and would take up less space. I would like to replace it with the new Pocket Tire Plugger. My current plugger is the original model with large caulking gun installer. (Hope this does not cross the rant threshold.) The repair is safe but overall safe riding is about minimizing risk and a damaged tire even properly repaired is a risk I chose to eliminate when I am able. The first was within approximately 500 miles the second within 50 miles. In both cases I did replace the tire in a reasonable amount of time. The skill level for the required the repair with the BMW kit is higher. If you are able to follow directions you can perform the task. The skill level to execute an emergency repair is minimal with the plugger. The second puncture was caused by a sheet screw and caused lateral carcass damage that did not allow a clean simple repair. The second puncture was repaired and did hold air to allow for the ride home. The first puncture was repaired satisfactory. The second repair involved two punctures. This may be operator error in the repair. In both cases the repair was effective but did leak a small amount of air. ![]() Construction began on the hospital I work at and my last week riding I suffered two punctures before storing that winter. The second was at the end of a riding season. Dealers in Missoula were closed on the Monday that I passed through there. A quick repair allowed me to travel to a dealer at Clarkston WA, on the Idaho Washington boarder, to get a replacement tire. The first was in the Rockies crossing the Lemhi pass on the Montana Idaho boarder. I have used it on two different occasions. I carry it on long rides (a bit like wearing suspenders and a belt but ) but carry the Stop & Go on a regular basis. I have used the BMW repair kit on previous bikes with mixed results. I purchased it when I purchase my R1150R in 02. If you want to view all content, you must register for the forum if you are not a member, or if a member, you must be logged in.
